BRIGGS 1921 Funeral of Civil War Veteran Held on Thursday Afternoon. The funeral of Isaac S. BRIGGS, who died suddenly at Neosa, Missouri, last Monday was held from the Christian church at Red Rock on Tuesday, August 9th, Rev. A. KLINE officiating, Interment at Red Rock. There were songs by Mrs. A. KLINE and Eldridge HOWES. Mr. BRIGGS was born in New Concord in 1840 and spent the entire part of his younger days in that vicinity. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in the Army and fought with the Northern forces for three years and four months. Upon his return from the service he came to New Concord and on January 1st, 1866 he married Miss Alice SHOOK of Rock City, Dutchess county. About fifteen years ago his health failed and he left New York state and took a soldiers claim at Eureka Springs, Arkansas of which he was the owner at the time of his death. During the winter he was accustomed to divide his time between Eureka Springs and Neosa and he had come to the latter place, preparatory to making his usual trip to Red Rock where he had always been accustomed to spending a part of the summer. On Monday morning a neighbor near the place where BRIGGS was staying heard him calling and upon going to the house, Mr. BRIGGS asked him to get a Doctor as he was not feeling well. The neighbor hurried for a physician but when he arrived BRIGGS was dead in his chair. Heart disease is said to have been the cause of his death. The deceased was a member of the Christian church of Red Rock and was keenly interested in the welfare of that institution. Footnotes: Also included with the Bible were numerous old family photos and a newspaper clipping about Isaac and Alice BRIGGS 50th wedding anniversary.
