An obituary pasted in Bible: Mrs. Maria FINDLEY, wife of Robert T. FINDLEY. died April 19, 1861 at her residence near Sheakleyville, Mercer county, Pa, in the thirtieth year of her age. Sister Findley was blessed with the prayers and instruction of her parents, who endeavored to teach their children to love and serve God. As her aged father said on the day of her funeral, "This is the fifth one of my children that God has called to the eternal world, but I have dedicated them all to the Lord and know they are in glory." Sister Findley was kind and affectionate, evenly and placid in manners and disposition; was a strong friend of the usages and doctrines of the Church of her choice. She was awakened to a sense of her lost condition, ans was brought to the mercy tent, where she found peace and pardon in believing in Christ, at a protracted meeting held in this place eight years ago last March by brother J. Leslie and the writer of this notice, when she united with the M. E. Church in which she lived a worthy and consistent member. For more than two years before her death she was afflicted with ophthalmy, and the greater part of the time, deprived of entirely of her sight. Yet when she was permitted to meet with her brethren in the classroom, she spoke with rapture of that immortal vision which she soon expected to behold. Her sufferings were severe the last few days of her wasting life. When recovering from one of those dreadful spasms which finally terminated her existence, she said to her mother, "O mother, I would rather die and be at rest, for I am prepared to go." The last words that escaped her lips were, "Come, O my God, come!" And she fell asleep in Jesus. This is the third time that death has visited our society at this place this year; but our loss is their gain. Our sister has left a husband and three children to mourn their loss, with many friends. We commit them to God and the ?????? grace, and may (can't read this part). Another obituary pasted in Bible: (Year looks like 1895.) Findley - On Feb. 19th, Mrs. Elizabeth Findley of Sheakleyville, aged 27 years. Mother Findley needs no eulogy. We have strong assurance that she has gone "to dwell in the house of the Lord forever." She will be remembered as a kind neighbor, a faithful friend, a loving mother, and and exemplary christian. She left no children of her own flesh and blood to cherish her memory, but the devotion and grief of those to whom she acted a mother's part show how well she filled the difficult position of step-mother. In early life she was connected with the Covenanter church of Little Beaver, but afterward connected with the United Presbyterian church, in which connection she died. J.M.E. Footnote: 1880 Federal Census of North Ward, Mercer, Mercer Co, PA shows: Robert T. FINDLEY, farmer, age 51, born PA, father born Ireland, mother born PA. Sarah A. FINDLEY, age 45, born PA, parents born PA. Margaret HENDERSON, age 26, servant, born PA, parents born PA.
