One handwritten page reads: Sarah ye Daughter of Matthew SPILLING and Rhoda his wife was born July ye - 1759 on Monday be twin (between) 7 and 8 of clock in ye morning. Peter ye Son of Matthew SPILLING and Rhoda his wife was born Aug ye 10th 1761 about half anower (sic: an hour) after five oclock on Monday ????? and was baptized 22. John the Son of Matthew SPILLING and Rhoda his wife was born on Tuesday ye 27 of Dec. about one oclock in ye day 1762 and was Baptized e 8 of Jan. 1764. James the Son of Matthew SPILLING and Rhoda his wife was born on Wednesday ye 21 of May about anour (sic: an hour) past Nine at night and was Baptized June the 15-- 1766 Footnotes: Bible is a 1634 King James Quarto. The birth records transcribed above were recorded on the back of the Bible's title page. There are a few early notations in the text including the phrase "tell J Bunyon" on page 288 opposite Chapter 26 of First Chronicles. |
