Eliesabett LANGENECKERN, I bought this prayer book, to the praise and glory of God, for my use and for learning about Him. Anno Domini 1797, the 25th of July, in Donegal Township, in Lancaster County.


Hand written in black ink by a German pastor citing the Bible quotation of James 5:13:

If anyone be of good cheer, he should sing psalms. This writes the Apostle Paul, emphasizing that the fruit of the spirit is peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Now earnest prayer and singing are works of the good spirit. Amen

Adam REITER and Elisabet LANGENECKERIN married on the 18th of September in the year 1803.

Adam REITER born in the year 1779, the 15th of April.

Elisabeth REITERIN born in the year 1786, the 12th of September.

Maria [REITERIN] born in 1804, the 26th of August at 10 o'clock in the evening.

Anna [REITERIN] born the 3rd of December [in the year 1806] at 1 [o'clock] in the afternoon.

Michael REITER born in March in the morning at 8 o'clock, 1811

Chatrina REITERIN born the 11th of May 1814.

1. The language style is similar to the Lutheran pastor Henry Melchior Muhlenberg of Lancaster, PA.
2. A prayer book is one officially authorized by the government authorities in Switzerland, and is needed for confirmation instructions.
3. Because two scriveners recorded the family record, there are repetitions of data.
4. The translation from the old German was by Anne Augspurger Schmidt-Lange.
5. This 1787 Prayer Book is owned by Dick Cryer, Publisher, Longenecker Family Newsletter, P.O. Box 11011, Greenwich, CT 06831
6. The family tree of Elizabeth Longenecker is below. Dates of Christian and John came from Richard Davis's All of the families were from Donegal Township.
