The following law prohibits institutions of learning from restricting sex offenders registered in the state of Nevada in any way.  This means sex offenders may be enrolled in colleges and universities in Nevada.

NRS 179B.270 Restrictions on use of information. Except as otherwise authorized pursuant to specific statute, a person shall not use information obtained from the community notification website for any purpose related to any of the following:

1. Insurance, including health insurance.
2. Loans.
3. Credit.
4. Employment.
5. Education, scholarships or fellowships.
6. Housing or accommodations.
7. Benefits, privileges or services provided by any business establishment.

NEVADA LAWMAKERS DEBATE RESTRICTIONS ON WHERE SEX OFFENDERS CAN LIVE

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada lawmakers are debating a bill that would provide additional protections to victims of sex offenders, by prohibiting the offenders from moving within 1,000 feet of the victims.

Assemblyman Lynn Stewart, R-Henderson, who introduced AB325, told the Assembly Corrections, Parole and Probation Committee that as the law is written now, offenders could move across the street or next door to their victims.

Committee members were told by a young mother, who was raped by her babysitter's boyfriend when she was four years old, that her attacker years later moved next door to her grandmother, where the victim used to live.

NEVADA LAWMAKERS ADVANCE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND SEX OFFENDER BILLS

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A Nevada Assembly panel voted Thursday for a bill that would make it a felony to solicit a child for an act of prostitution.

AB238, approved by the Assembly Corrections, Parole and Probation Committee, would go after the clients of minor prostitutes, and would require that a person who intentionally seeks to hire a child prostitute be subject to lifetime supervision.

Although the legal age for consensual sex is 16 in Nevada, the bill defines a "child" as anyone under age 18.

The committee also approved AB325, which would require that as a condition of lifetime supervision a sex offender can't have any contact with a victim of the offense or a witness who testified against the defendant.

The panel also advanced a measure that would require the Department of Corrections and the Division of Parole and Probation to adopt policies that set maximum caseloads for their officers.

AB385 also would require periodic reports to legislators about staffing ratios.
