OBITUARY NEWSPAPER CLIPPING
In Keeseville, July 17, 1876, Mrs. Rocksena SHERBURNE, wife of Miranda SHERBURNE, aged 74.
She was early converted, and at the age of eighteen united with the Baptist Church in this place, and for more than half a century ahs exemplified the christian graces in all her relations to the church, family, and community in which she lived. Her sickness was long and painful and her sufferings were at times intense, but she endured all uncomplainingly and with true christian fortitude. God's promises were an unfailing source of comfort. nine weary years of suffering failed to becloud her mind, and the cheerful welcome so often extended to her beloved Pastor and other friends whom she loved so well, are like hallowed memories, and can never be forgotten.
She longed and prayed for the spread of Christ's kingdom, and now it has come to her in all its fullness. On earth she lived a life of faith on the Son of God. She did what she could to inspire the like (hole torn in this clipping) now that her life work is done (hole torn in this clipping) that great is her reward in Heaven.
A few years ago she wrote the following poem, which was published in the Watchman and Reflector with the accompanying note from her: "I have suffered much pain during my sickness, and at times have felt that I was near the borders of the grave, and have felt a desire to depart and be with Christ which is far better. The Captain of our Salvation was made perfect through suffering, and His people are called to suffer with him. he has chosen them in the furnace of affliction."
FAINT YET PURSUING
Five weary years have passed away,
Five weary years of pain;
And I have sought from day to day
Some sweet relief to gain.
While thus from all the world shut out
I often question why,
In sorrow, pain, distress and doubt,
I must so weakly lie.
But still my soul would cling to Thee,
Thou only Good and Just;
In all the trials sent to me,
On Thee alone I'll trust.
And when my days on earth are past,
And all my sufferings o'er,
My risen Lord I'll meet at last,
